A new website for an almost 180 year old publishing giant, Macmillan.

Publishing has a rich history that often hits on nostalgia, specifically the almost forgotten bookstore. The goal of this redesign was to reach into that history and bring the in-person experience of a bookstore online.

By utilizing a vintage-esc but modern typographic system as well as showing books on a digital “bookshelf” the site is able to harken back to a different time, while still looking to the future.

A refined color palette was introduced to compliment a design system that is meant to compliment the various book jackets.

A product detail page was designed to give users in-depth knowledge about the title they were browsing.

Mimicking the motion of opening a book after taking it off the shelf, it was critical to incorporate excerpts in an immersive and unobtrusive manner.

Kids book detail pages introduce color and more youthful illustrations to support their content.

A “Book Finder” quiz was designed to help users find the perfect book, either for themselves or someone else. Custom illustrations were developed for the various genres and questions.
